As such, one of the biggest questions being asked by God of War fans is whether or not the upcoming game will have a photo mode. In a recent interview with Daily Star, God of War game director Cory Barlog entertained the idea, telling the publication that “It’s something that we’re definitely looking at.” The developer adds, “A lot of games kind of finish and they shortly after the release put a really cool photo mode out. So I think I’d like to follow suit in that respect and put something out.” A God of War photo mode would have to be something “really cool,” “Something where I think ’that’s great,’” and it has to be “something that can stand toe-to-toe with some of the better photo modes out there,” says Barlog.

If God of War did decide to introduce a photo mode post-launch, then, as Barlog notes, the game would be one of several major titles to go down that route. Fellow PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn also added a photo mode post-launch, allowing players to capture images of encounters with the game’s giant robot dinosaurs. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy also offered a photo mode when it released last summer and most recently, the Shadow of the Colossus PS4 remake has a photo mode that let players use filters, depth of field sliders and more.

At this point, it’s unclear just how far a God of War photo mode would go. It would certainly be cool to change the lighting and the color scheme of the game’s Norse locations, but could the development team at Santa Monica Studio go as far as allowing players to put Kratos in different poses, even making funny facial expressions?

God of War already intends to show the softer side of the titular deity, with Kratos able to make parenting choices for his son Atreus, but would it be a step too far if a photo mode let him do a massive grin and a peace sign? It doesn’t seem as though Barlog and the rest of the development team have any concrete plans just yet, but many fans would welcome a photo mode at least.

God of War is set to release on April 20, 2018 for PlayStation 4.
